You may be aware that the theatre worked on a archive project for its 75th season. As the database is still under modification it is currently unavailable to the website, however we will soon be able to provide a back catalouge to all shows dating back to 1931.

Are you retired?
Do you know someone who has retired?
It could be about you then.

Albert Nobbs has retired after 40 years in a dead end job and all he wants to do is to put his feet up and read the paper - but Connie, his wife, has different ideas. So does Ruth a slightly odd, but kindly, neighbour and Alice, a very odd neighbour indeed. All want a bit of Albert. All want Albert to enjoy retirement but when tragedy strikes it is hard to laugh and smile or even look after yourself properly.
Written by Gordon Steel and originally directed by John Godber at Hull Truck this laughter & tears, light & dark play sees Stuart O'Hara in his first leading role.
Sue Gill, (who retired from teaching in July) is Connie. She confides in the audience as she recalls their life together. Christine Flanagan takes on the double roles of Ruth and the slightly mad Alice.
Directed by Steve Gill this Main Stage production is extremely funny - a bit rude - gut wrenchingly touching - and yet in many ways totally true to life.
This promises to be one of those plays that if you don't bother to see you will regret. Don't just think - I've never heard of it...it can't be any good - if John Godber thinks it's good - it's good!
Intrigued?

Warning!
As films these days have to advertise their sex and violence content, for Albert Nobbs we have to announce the following:
Albert Nobbs swears a bit. Albert Nobbs takes his clothes off a bit. Others just threaten to!

by Eduardo di Filippo

Filumena is a torrid Italian comedy set in Naples in 1947.
Torrid because of the sun and the heat, and because tempers and emotions heat up quickly. At the centre of all this heat is Filumena. An ex- prostitute and person of passion, strong convictions and thoughtful cunning.
She has a faithless lover, Domenico, who is a rich confectioner and also a person of passion, strong convictions, but thoughtless cunning. After 25 years of Domenico's shameless philandering Filumena tricks him into marriage. From now on torrid becomes explosive as friends, servants, mentors, confidantes, dressmakers, lawyers and three young men try to resolve the new marital situation.
